Holiday activity idea // Create your own Lego minifigures

The past few school holidays I’ve taken the kids to the Lego shop at Canal Walk to build some of their own minifigures. It’s a full outing in itself, for us, if you include the drive time and add a yummy doughnut 😉 And to be honest, I’d be quite happy to go do it on my own, without the kids too 😂

Inside the store they have a special station where you create your characters. Each character gets a head, headpiece, body, legs and 1 accessory (I like to choose the animals as accessories). A few that we’ve built include a policeman, “baddie”, mermaid, farmer, doctor, pirate and a band. There’s a lot to choose from!

Every time we’ve been it’s been 2-for-1, so it works out to either R42 for 2 minifigures or R119 for 6 minifigures. Sounds like a good deal to me!

The store also has a Lego table and a few Duplo options to keep kids entertained even longer.

There are @legocertifiedstoressa stores in Joburg, Durban, Pretoria too. I haven’t been to those, but I assume they’d be just as good.

Photos include minifigures from our December holiday visit too. Each time we’ve been the options available are a bit different, so you may not find these exact pieces.

I planned too much. Whoops! 🤦‍♀️ But we’ll use the last game on her actual birthday with family this coming weekend.

When they arrived I had some white cardboard unicorns set out on a table with khokis, pompoms and glue (I decided to be brave 🤣). It was a last minute addition that I quickly cut on my @cricut_sa while I was busy getting ready to leave, and I’m so glad I did!

The main activity was each getting a little pony ride. After everyone had ridden they even got to decorate the white pony with chalk and turn her into a unicorn. How cool!

Once a few of them had had their turn to ride I put out some paint and wooden wands made by @jigsawjunk. Once dry they could add ribbons and jewels. The wands are so amazing and SUCH a good price. Idea inspired by @mascara_and_mimosas, thanks Sarah!

We also did pass the parcel and the party box scavenger hunt (explained in previous post).

Now we’re counting down the sleeps until her actual birthday 🎉 Just a few more to go!

We celebrated the big SIX a bit early this year with a small unicorn party. My SIL works with ponies, so we hosted a few school friends for a pony ride and unicorn fun at her stables.

The cake: I made a fondant unicorn, which I got so caught up in that I was late for school pick up. But all was forgiven when she saw the reason why 🤣 I was too scared to draw the eyes on and mess it up, so they’re actually teeny tiny little vinyl eyes cut on my @cricut_sa.

We also added a 6 cake topper, cut from two colours of glitter cardstock and glued onto toothpicks.

Party packs were each personalised and given to them empty. It’s the best! Treats were hidden around the farm and they had to follow (easy) clues to find each bag of items. They’re at an age where it can be so easy, but they still enjoy running to the answer of the next clue.

One of the party pack treats was a packet of unicorn poop I.e. mini marshmallows 🤣. White labels done with Cricut writable vinyl.
