One of the trickiest things about working with vinyl (or any other material) is when you want to stick separate pieces onto your item, but need them to be in a specific place. Trying to move them once they are already sticky is a nightmare and if you don’t get them right it may just irritate you every time you look. The solution? Use transfer paper. It’s really simple and allows you to keep all your little bits in the right place when sticking them to your item.
I used transfer paper for these little herb pot labels. There’s no way that I would be able to get the separate letters or “i” dots in the right place first time.
Start by cutting out whatever you want to stick on. I used gold vinyl in my Silhouette Cameo to cut out the labels.
Remove all the negative space/background. My budget tool to help out is a small seam ripper.
Cut a piece of transfer paper the size of your sticker and place the adhesive side of the transfer paper over to front side of your vinyl. (If you are using the transfer paper with various bits of adhesive paper or paper with glue, remove the back of the transfer paper and arrange your bits with front side of the bits on the adhesive side of the vinyl)
Make sure to press the transfer paper down well. Another budget tool here is a cheap pan scraper. I also use this to help lift cuttings off the Silhouette mat. It’s a great replacement for my Silhouette scraper that I managed to lose, WHOOPS!
Remove the backing of your vinyl
Place your transfer paper in place. Press firmly over the vinyl and gently remove the transfer paper.
Ta-da! These can make for a great DIY Christmas gift.

I have a Silhouette machine and don’t really know how to use it. I purchased it because I wanted to make words, labels, etc. just like you used on this project. Do you have a video tutorial on how you created/cut the labels? I’ve looked on the Silhouette website for tutorial but they are too complicated for me, need an easier step by step process that I can understand and follow. Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Also what is the font you used on this project, it’s super cute?

Hi Belinda. Thanks for stopping by Pure Sweet Joy.
The Silhouette is such a great tool, once you get the hang of it. I don’t have any video tutorials on it at the moment, but I will try and develop one in the next few days. Thanks for the suggestion! In the meantime, feel free to ask any specific questions and I’ll try help you out.
The font is called Sweet Pea and is available for free personal use http://www.dafont.com/sweet-pea.font. It’s one of my favourite fonts at the moment!
