I have been loving playing around with my new Cricut Maker! The Wholesaler SA has now made a range of Cricut products available in South Africa and it has opened up a great new way of crafting. In light of Easter coming up soon and the fact that I like to jump right into things, I decided to make my first ever Cricut project a (simple) sewing project where I made the SVG pattern from scratch. Apparently I like to swim in the deep end. That being said, it actually ended up being really straight forward and the Cricut Design Space software was fairly easy to navigate even as someone who’d never used it before. The fabric cut was great and now it would be really easy to cut another one exactly the same.
This sweet bunny rattle is a great babyshower gift idea too. The Cricut makes it really easy to cut the pattern perfectly multiple times, so you could even build up a little stash of presents for friends. I’ve included a link to download the SVG pattern for use with your Cricut machine. There’s also a PDF that you can use to cut by hand if you don’t have a Cricut machine (yet 🙂 ).
My Cricut Maker was sponsored by The Wholesaler SA, but all designs and opinions are 100% my own. To read more about what a Cricut Maker actually is, find my intro post here. To purchase your own Cricut smart cutting machine, find an official retailer for South Africa here.
DIY Bunny Baby Rattle
What you need
Fabric scraps* for body and inside of ear
Stuffing
Rattle** (optional)
Bunny Rattle pattern (Download here – Free for personal use. Includes SVG for use with a Cricut or a PDF for cutting by hand)

*I used a thick cotton from my Zana Products scrap pack. A thicker fabric helps to hold the shape of the bunny better and prevent lumpiness when it’s stuffed.

What to do
Upload the SVG file to Cricut Design Space and resize it to whatever size you’d like your final bunny to be, allowing for a narrow seam.
Place your fabric on your fabric grip mat and insert your rotary blade to your Cricut Maker.
Cricut Fabric Cutting Tip: To help keep your fabric mat clean and therefore extend it’s life, use a layer of transfer tape or contact paper between your fabric grip mat and your fabric. I choose to stick my fabric to the transfer tape and then stick the non-sticky side of the transfer tape to the mat. Be sure that no sticky transfer tape goes over the edges of the grid on the mat as this may interfere with the rollers while cutting.
Cut two body pieces and two ear pieces from your main fabric and two ear pieces from your accent colour.
Place an accent colour piece and main fabric ear piece right sides together and stitch close to the edge. Be sure to backstitch well at each end to protect it while turning it right way round. Getting the ears turned right way out is probably the trickiest part of the whole thing, but a little patience goes a long way.
Fold the edges of the ears together and secure by sewing over the fold.
Pin the two body pieces right sides together and pin the ears inside the body, as shown below. Make sure that they’re at the same angle as this will affect how they point once it’s all turned the right way.
Sew around the edges of the body, leaving a gap big enough to turn the body and ears right way round.
Flip it right way round and iron the body if needed.
Stuff the body and insert the rattle.
Close up the opening by hand stitching.
And now your bunny is ready to rattle away!
