We all know that google is not the best doctor when it comes to headaches. You know, because you’ll suddenly have brain cancer or something. Hopefully you saw last week, that we announced our pregnancy 🙂 Somehow in pregnancy a quick google search can become a go-to source of information (especially when, like me, it’s your first time). But should it be?
There are times when forums can be very helpful, but I’ve found that they always include women who have experienced both the worst possible outcome and those who were overreacting when everything was absolutely fine. Now I’m all for being aware of risks, but I am well aware of these risks already. So often just these forums make me begin to worry that the worst case scenario is going to happen to me. This is not helpful!
Are you like that too? I’m sure there will always be some level of concern, but there are definitely steps that we can take to try and be more realistic. One step that I’ve found extremely helpful is having a good evidence-based book to replace google search as my default information source, such as Pregnancy Sense. Pregnancy Sense is co-written by an occupational therapist, obstetrician-gynaecologist and qualified nurse, midwife and lactation consultant. How’s that for having a medical team at your fingertips! It covers topics ranging from the basics behind pregnancy (in all areas of your life), a week by week breakdown of changes (my favourite part!) and plenty of information on the birthing processes as well as handling a premature delivery, feeding and after birth care.
I would honestly recommend getting your hands on a copy whether you are hoping to fall pregnant, are already pregnant or even planning on adding another child to your family. In SA it can be purchased straight from the authors or off Amazon for international moms-to-be.
And the best news? I like it so much that I’m giving away a copy to one lucky lady AND I’ll be adding in a custom Pure Sweet Joy babygrow. See the details on the Instagram post below:
