Sometimes we all need a break. Am I right? Last week Michael and I took a little break for our 3rd wedding anniversary and it as so good to get away for a few days. But, we’re back and ready to tackle the last two weeks before Christmas, I hope! Christmas presents can get so pricey, so these DIY tangram magnets can help ease the budget a bit. Alternatively, you could fall in love with them and keep them all to yourself.
Supplies:
Air-dry clay
Spray-paint or paint
Adhesive magnets or mini magnets and glue
Tools:
Rolling pin or flat glass
Knife or thin ruler
Newspaper
Scissors
Start by rolling your clay out to about 5mm thick.
Cut clay into a square. I cut 12cm x 12cm, but you can choose depending on the size you want.
Make guides according to this template, by gently pressing into the clay. Once done, carefully cut each shape out using a knife or thin ruler and allow to dry thoroughly.
Paint your shapes, with the colours of your choice. It’s probably a good idea to test your paint on clay off cuts. Although these pastel colours worked well on the clay, gold just rubbed off.
Cut your magnet sheet into pieces to match the size of each piece of clay and stick them to the backs of the clay pieces.
You’re all set to arrange your beautiful tangram magnets and entertain yourself while cooking 🙂

(Please excuse my mistakes, I do my best but I’m french^^)
It’s such a great idea ! I tried to do it but my pieces bent when they dried, instead of staying flat. I guess I did something wrong but what ? I used a blower to help drying the pieces faster, maybe it was not a great idea ?
Thanks for your help 🙂
Deborah says
Hi Morgane
So sorry to hear that! It is best to let them dry naturally. The blower may have made them bend more. If you try again I would suggest turning the pieces about once a day, while they dry. That will allow them to dry on both sides more easily and hopefully prevent the bending.
P.S. You English is great 🙂

Thank you for your advice. I will try again next week-end ! 🙂
