Are you good at keeping up with with your laundry? We aren’t! As it is now, with just the two of us we can often have washing strewn out over the clothes rack, camping chairs and sometimes even on the couch just to try get it all to dry. The lounge ends up looking like a disaster zone! For a long long time we’ve been wanting to get hold of a Spindel and with a baby due at the start of what will hopefully be a rainy winter, we decided it was definitely time to give it a try.
A Spindel is a laundry dryer that spins at a much faster rate than your washing machine. In just 3 minutes, it can spin out up to 80% of the moisture left in your laundry after washing. By spinning two full-ish loads of our relatively small toploader washing machine, we managed to get another 1,5 litres of water out. That’s 750ml of water less that needs to dry from each load of laundry! If there’s any extra soap still left in your laundry this also comes out with the water, rather than drying into the clothes, leaving your clothes lighter and better for sensitive skins. Win!
To test out how much of our lounge disaster zone the Spindel would avoid, we deliberately left some of our laundry inside to dry on a wet day (including thick towels and warm tops). Even though it was washed late in the afternoon, some items were dry before bed and the rest was completely dry by the next morning. Another win!
The Spindel is essentially a narrow top loading spinner, that spins at 2800rpm. That’s more than double the speed of my washing machine. Although it spins extremely quickly, it is gentle on your clothes (including delicates or hand washed items) and does not leave them creased. In fact, because they air dry so much faster, our clothes have often end up less creased. It is also extremely light on electricity, allowing for 100 Spindel cycles for every 1 tumble dryer cycle.
It is very easy to use. You simply pack your wet clothes in neatly, close the lid and turn on the starting dial. Leave it for 3 minutes, or until the water stops dripping out, and then hang up your washing.
We are honestly so excited to have a Spindel of our own. It is a time, energy and mess saver! If you’d like to get hold of one for yourself (which is a good idea), you can find them at home stores such as Tafelberg and Wakefords, or you can get one online from Takealot. Lucky for you, there’s a special deal coming soon, so be sure to keep an eye on my Facebook page!
And seriously, how cute are little girls clothes?
