We have now been in Tonga for 1 month. In some ways so much has happened and in other ways things have gone quite slowly.
- 4 trips to Kruger
- 2 trips to Nelspruit
- Movie nights
- A new job
- A new church
On the slow side:
- The broken couch in our house has not yet been removed
- Our bathroom roof is still disgustingly mildewy (we are leaving it for hospital to follow processes and fix it themselves)
- Our conversion from landline to ADSL is now scheduled for tomorrow. We shall see if Telkom follows through
- We got a washing machine, but cannot find the correct adaptor in any of the shops around here, so it’s just sitting taking up space (which is limited)
- Finding a shop where we actually trust the meat
- We are yet to see any cats in the Kruger
There is currently a lightning storm going on outside. Probably the best one since we arrived. Every few minutes the lights dip. Coming from Cape Town where lightning is a once/twice a year treat, I quite look forward to the storms here.
Last weekend we took a day trip to Nelspruit to get the washing machine. The washing machine fitted in with only about 1cm spare. We had a friend from Tonga with us in the car, but shame I think she was a bit squashed in the back on the way home.
Yesterday we had got up at 4:30 to try to be at the Malelane Kruger gate by 5:30. We were supposed to meet a few friends there, but that didn’t quite work out for them. It was good to be there early, but man, the afternoon nap was much needed. Today we went and tried out a new church, where we will probably keep going. We have been going to a home group from that church for the last 2 weeks and that has also been good. After church today we decided to take a short impromptu drive into Kruger since we were already in Malelane. What a treat!
We saw Hyena twice in 1 day, but didn’t manage a fantastic photo. Was trying to enjoy the moment.
Our rhino viewing count is now up to 14
This is still the closest we’ve come to seeing any cats though:
